Muslim Nations Express Alarm Over Israel-Greece-Cyprus Military Alliance, Turkey Warns of Regional Instability

Ankara, Turkey – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has voiced significant apprehension among Muslim countries in the region regarding the burgeoning military alliance between the Zionist entity, Greece, and Cyprus. This alliance, Fidan asserted on Sunday, is perceived as a direct threat to regional stability and security.

Fidan highlighted the unusual nature of this grouping, noting that Greece, a NATO member, has chosen to align itself in a manner that raises serious questions about its true intentions. “No one has given assurances to us that this wasn’t an initiative against us before or after its founding,” Fidan stated during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, underscoring the lack of transparency and the perceived hostile intent behind the alliance.

Zionist Entity’s Provocative Rhetoric Fuels Tensions

The Turkish Foreign Minister also recalled the inflammatory remarks made by the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity, Benjamin Netanyahu, during a trilateral summit with the Greek Prime Minister and Cypriot President last year. Netanyahu’s aggressive statement in December – “To those who fantasise they can re-establish their empires and their dominion over our lands, I say: Forget it. It’s not going to happen. Don’t even think about it” – was widely interpreted as a thinly veiled threat against Turkey, further exacerbating regional tensions.

The Israel-Greece-Cyprus alignment, which has been developing since the early 2010s, involves extensive cooperation in security and defense, including joint military training and intelligence sharing. Fidan previously warned that this alliance aims to encircle Turkey from the south, describing it as a catalyst that “brings more problems” and “leads to war.”

Despite Athens’ claims that its cooperation with the Zionist entity and Cyprus is peaceful and not directed against any third country, Fidan reiterated that the trilateral arrangement undeniably possesses a military dimension. “Greece can say what it wants, but the picture is clear,” he asserted. “There is no other country in Europe that has taken this kind of step towards military cooperation and partnership.”

He emphasized that this alliance is a source of profound concern not only for Turkey but also for other Muslim countries in the region, even if they do not publicly articulate their anxieties. “The Zionist entity has been recently running an expansionist policy, and Turkey’s concerns aren’t unwarranted,” Fidan added, linking the alliance to broader destabilizing actions by the Zionist regime.

Turkey’s Diplomatic Initiatives for Regional Stability

In stark contrast to the confrontational approach of the Zionist entity, Turkey has actively established regular dialogue mechanisms with key regional players such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan to address regional issues constructively. Fidan clarified that this Turkish initiative is not directed against any specific nation, including the Zionist entity, and is fundamentally different from a military alliance.

“We aren’t like the Zionist entity. They established a military alliance with Greece and Cyprus against the Muslim countries,” Fidan stated, drawing a clear distinction. “We, unlike the Zionist entity, try to end the conflicts in the region, stabilise it.”

Cypriot Discomfort with Zionist Entity’s Provocations

Even within the alliance, reports indicate discomfort. A Cypriot newspaper reported in December that Nicosia was uneasy about being drawn into tensions between the Zionist entity and Turkey, accusing Netanyahu of inflaming the situation for domestic political gain. A regional official confirmed to Middle East Eye that Cyprus was indeed apprehensive about the Zionist entity’s aggressive approach, describing it as “the usual playbook with Israel: Messaging to its domestic audience with lots of bluster and gusto, ignoring the hard facts and projecting its own narrative.”

Reports of “selective and targeted leaks” from the Zionist entity suggesting the creation of a joint brigade involving soldiers from the Zionist entity, Greece, and Cyprus further agitated Nicosia, though these plans were later denied by Cypriot and Greek officials.

This ongoing situation underscores the urgent need for genuine dialogue and de-escalation to prevent further instability in an already volatile region, a path that Turkey consistently advocates.
