President Xi Unveils Comprehensive Framework for Enduring Middle East Peace, Championing Sovereignty and Regional Autonomy

In a significant diplomatic initiative, President Xi Jinping of China has presented a visionary four-point blueprint aimed at fostering genuine peace and stability across the Middle East. These crucial proposals, articulated during talks in Beijing with Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi and subsequently published by the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, underscore a profound commitment to regional self-determination and sustainable development.

President Xi’s framework calls upon Gulf states and the broader international community to anchor any lasting regional settlement in principles that prioritize the inherent rights and aspirations of nations, moving beyond paradigms that have historically fueled instability. The core tenets emphasize peaceful co-existence, unwavering respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, and a balanced approach to development and security.

Upholding Peaceful Coexistence

President Xi stressed the imperative for Gulf states, as inseparable neighbors, to cultivate robust and stable relations. He highlighted that such foundational ties are indispensable for the region’s future prosperity and security. The Chinese leader called for concerted efforts to enhance inter-state relations, advocating for the establishment of a common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security architecture for the Middle East and the Gulf region, thereby strengthening the very bedrock of peaceful co-existence.

Safeguarding National Sovereignty

A cornerstone of Xi’s vision is the inviolability of national sovereignty. He unequivocally stated that sovereignty is the fundamental pillar for the survival and flourishing of all nations, particularly developing ones, and must never be infringed upon. President Xi asserted that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf states demand genuine respect, while the safety of their personnel, facilities, and institutions must be resolutely protected against any external or internal threats.

Adhering to International Rule of Law

President Xi further called for unwavering adherence to the international system, with the United Nations at its core, and to an international order firmly rooted in international law. He emphasized the critical importance of upholding the basic norms governing international relations as enshrined in the UN Charter, thereby promoting a just and equitable global framework that resists unilateralism and interventionism.

Balancing Development with Security

Addressing the intricate link between progress and stability, President Xi articulated that security serves as an essential prerequisite for development, while robust development, in turn, acts as a powerful guarantor of security. He urged all stakeholders to foster an environment conducive to growth, channeling positive energy into the development trajectories of Gulf states. China, he affirmed, stands ready to share the opportunities arising from its own modernization drive, collaborating with Gulf countries to build stronger foundations for regional development and collective security, free from external dependencies.
