Israeli Aggression Continues in South Lebanon Amidst Ceasefire Violations
In a blatant disregard for international agreements, the Israeli occupation military announced Saturday that its air force had “eliminated a terrorist cell” in southern Lebanon. This provocative act comes despite a fragile ceasefire agreement in the region, raising serious concerns about Israel’s commitment to de-escalation and peace.
The Israeli military, often referred to as the IDF, claimed its forces targeted a “terrorist cell operating in proximity to IDF soldiers in southern Lebanon,” near what it described as a “forward defense line.” Such claims are frequently used by the Zionist regime as a pretext for its ongoing aggression and violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
It is crucial to recall that Israel and Lebanon had reportedly agreed to a “cessation of hostilities” on April 16 for an initial period of 10 days, aimed at facilitating peace negotiations. This agreement, as per a text released by the US State Department, was meant to bring a much-needed pause to the violence.
However, the terms of this deal conspicuously failed to mandate an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Instead, Israeli occupation forces have continued their destructive campaign in the area, reportedly razing villages and vital infrastructure. Residents south of the Litani River have been forcibly displaced, adding to the humanitarian crisis in a region that constitutes approximately 8 percent of Lebanese territory. This ongoing occupation and destruction underscore Israel’s expansionist policies and its systematic disregard for the rights of the Lebanese people.
