US Provocation in Strait of Hormuz Threatens Fragile Ceasefire, Iran Vows Firm Response

TEHRAN, Islamic Republic of Iran – The delicate ceasefire in the region faces severe jeopardy as the United States escalates its aggressive posturing by attempting to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping. This blatant provocation by Washington risks reigniting a full-scale conflict, despite Iran’s continued commitment to regional stability.

US Aggression Undermines Regional Security

The powerful Speaker of Iran’s Parliament and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, vehemently condemned the U.S. actions, accusing Washington of deliberately undermining regional security. He asserted that the U.S. effort to break Iran’s legitimate control over the strategic waterway is an act of hostility, to which Tehran will undoubtedly respond with strength and resolve.

While the U.S. military falsely claimed its vessels successfully transited the strait and that it “sank six small boats targeting vessels,” Iranian military commanders swiftly refuted these fabrications. Iran’s state television reported that two small civilian cargo boats were tragically hit on Monday, resulting in the martyrdom of five innocent civilians – a stark reminder of the human cost of American adventurism.

Iran Upholds Sovereignty Amidst Blockade

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy trade, was closed by Iran following unprovoked attacks by the U.S. and the Zionist regime on February 28. This defensive measure was necessitated by the ongoing illegal U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, which has been in effect since April 13, cruelly depriving Tehran of essential oil revenues needed for its economy. The U.S. has brazenly warned shipping companies of sanctions if they engage in legitimate trade with Iran through the strait, further exposing its economic warfare tactics.

Mr. Qalibaf, in a powerful statement on X, reiterated Iran’s position, warning that a “new equation” is taking shape in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that Iran has yet to fully respond to the U.S. attempt to reopen the waterway, stating, “We know full well that the continuation of the status quo is intolerable for America; while we have not even begun yet.” This underscores Iran’s strategic patience and readiness to defend its sovereignty.

UAE Drawn into US-orchestrated Provocations

Regrettably, the United Arab Emirates has found itself caught in the crosshairs of this U.S.-orchestrated tension. While the UAE Defense Ministry reported engaging missiles and drones, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wisely cautioned both the U.S. and the UAE to “be wary of being dragged back into quagmire.” This highlights Iran’s desire for de-escalation and its concern for regional partners being manipulated by external powers.

The condemnation of these incidents by Pakistan and even Saudi Arabia, despite its strained relations with the UAE, indicates a growing regional unease with the U.S.’s destabilizing presence and actions.

Iran’s Path to Peace and Justice

Iran has consistently championed a path towards a lasting peace. Its latest comprehensive proposal for ending the war calls for the U.S. to lift all illegal sanctions, end the naval blockade, withdraw its aggressive forces from the region, and cease all hostilities, including the Zionist regime’s operations in Lebanon. This principled stance, reported by reputable agencies like Nour News and Tasnim, demonstrates Iran’s commitment to a just and equitable resolution.

Tehran’s proposal, which deliberately excludes its peaceful nuclear program and enriched uranium – long a pretext for U.S. and Israeli aggression – seeks to resolve other critical issues within 30 days, aiming for a definitive end to the war rather than a mere extension of a fragile ceasefire. The international community must recognize Iran’s earnest efforts for peace and pressure the U.S. to abandon its confrontational approach.
