DMW Reaffirms Support for OFWs Amid Middle East Tensions; Over 7,400 Repatriated<\/h1>\n

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to provide assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) impacted by the escalating tensions in the Middle East, as vital repatriation efforts continue.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n

Repatriation Efforts Underway<\/h2>\n

As of April 23, 2026, the agency has successfully facilitated the safe return of more than 7,400 OFWs and their dependents from various conflict-affected regions. This significant number underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Preparedness for Escalation<\/h2>\n

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized the government’s readiness for potential large-scale repatriation operations should the regional situation deteriorate further. He highlighted that comprehensive contingency measures are already firmly established.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt every stage of conflict, there are alert levels from 1 to 4, and we are prepared for any eventuality. At present, we have already been implementing meeting points, exit points, and fly-out arrangements for more than 7,000 repatriates. We stand ready should the situation escalate, but we remain hopeful it will not,\u201d Secretary Cacdac stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He further elaborated that specific assembly and exit points have been strategically organized to guarantee the secure and systematic movement of affected workers during such critical times.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Securing Future Assistance<\/h2>\n

Secretary Cacdac also announced that the DMW recently secured crucial additional funding from the Department of Budget and Management. This funding is designated to sustain essential assistance programs, including robust repatriation initiatives and comprehensive reintegration support for returning OFWs, ensuring a smoother transition back to their home country.<\/p>\n

In a proactive move, the DMW is actively collaborating with Congress on proposed legislative measures. These measures aim to establish dedicated emergency funding mechanisms, thereby strengthening the government’s capacity to respond effectively and promptly during crises that impact Filipino workers globally.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
