MANILA \u2013 An additional 223 Filipinos from the Middle East arrived in the Philippines on Thursday via commercial flights, as part of ongoing repatriation efforts by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).<\/p>\n
Among the 223 repatriates, 147 were Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Kuwait, who arrived on Gulf Air flight GF154, according to an OWWA statement. Earlier flights, Emirates Airlines EK 330 and 336, brought 45 OFWs and 15 dependents from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Shortly thereafter, another 15 OFWs and one dependent arrived from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n
The DMW reported that as of Thursday at 1 p.m., the total number of government-funded repatriations has reached 6,785. This figure includes 5,409 OFWs and 1,376 dependents. A DMW statement, originally in Filipino, highlighted that “A total of 7,408 OFWs and their dependents have returned to the country from March 5, 2026 to April 23, 2026, due to the ongoing unrest in the Middle East. Of this number, 6,785 underwent government-funded repatriation, including 5,409 OFWs and 1,376 dependents.”<\/p>\n
The repatriates were immediately provided with essential support, including financial assistance, transportation, temporary shelter, and reintegration support through the National Reintegration Network.<\/p>\n
Repatriation efforts in the Middle East intensified following heightened tensions and exchanges of attacks between the US and Israel against Iran, given the presence of over two million Filipinos in the region. The DMW anticipates further arrivals on Friday and Saturday from Kuwait, Qatar, and Dubai.<\/p>\n
