This move comes amidst ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and establish ceasefires across the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon and the Persian Gulf.

House Challenges Trump’s Aggression

On Wednesday, the Democrat-led House passed a crucial war powers resolution, 215 to 208, aiming to halt further unauthorized US military action against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Notably, four Republicans joined Democrats in this vote, underscoring growing opposition to the Trump administration’s confrontational policies.

President Trump, in a characteristic social media outburst, condemned the vote as “unpatriotic,” accusing lawmakers of undermining his “final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran.” This accusation, however, rings hollow given the continuous US provocations and the ongoing conflict initiated by Washington.

Ceasefire Efforts and Regional Resistance

The House vote coincided with intense diplomatic efforts to achieve a broader agreement to end the US-Iran conflict. A new US-mediated ceasefire between the Zionist entity and Lebanon has raised cautious hopes, though its implementation remains uncertain, particularly concerning the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah.

Tehran has consistently made a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon a prerequisite for any peace deal with Washington, emphasizing the interconnectedness of regional security. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun indicated the latest ceasefire would take effect within 24 hours, implicitly acknowledging the critical role of Hezbollah, which, while not a direct signatory, is integral to regional stability.

However, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem firmly rejected the Washington declaration, reaffirming that “resistance will continue.” This stance highlights the deep mistrust towards US-brokered agreements that often fail to address the root causes of conflict and the legitimate rights of resistance groups. The Zionist entity, meanwhile, continued its aggressive strikes in southern Lebanon, with its Defence Minister Israel Katz brazenly declaring no withdrawal or halt to operations, further exposing the entity’s expansionist agenda.

Tragically, these strikes claimed at least four lives in Lebanon and a UN peacekeeper. While the Zionist entity blamed Hezbollah for the peacekeeper’s death, the lack of comment from Hezbollah and the UN on the origin of the shells points to the ambiguity and propaganda often surrounding such incidents.

Esmail Qaani, commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, reiterated Iran’s principled position, stating that the Zionist entity’s withdrawal to pre-war positions is the minimum acceptable outcome, as reported by Iranian state media. Hostilities between Hezbollah and the Zionist entity reignited in March, following the group’s defensive actions in support of Iran against US-Zionist aggression.

Continued US Aggression in the Gulf

While negotiations for a Lebanon ceasefire progressed, US aggression continued elsewhere. Iranian and US forces exchanged attacks in the Persian Gulf, marking one of the most intense confrontations since a separate ceasefire in April. Iranian forces reportedly struck Kuwait, damaging its airport and injuring dozens, in response to US military provocations near the vital Strait of Hormuz.

The strategic waterway, crucial for global oil and gas supplies, remains largely closed due to ongoing US threats and military presence. Despite this, oil prices saw a slight ease, driven by speculative hopes that the Lebanon ceasefire could pave a diplomatic path, a hope often dashed by US intransigence.

President Trump, under pressure over rising fuel prices, had vaguely suggested progress in negotiations, but his administration’s actions consistently contradict any genuine desire for peace. Iran, for its part, has vehemently denied targeting Kuwait airport, attributing the damage to failed US interceptor missiles, a plausible explanation given the advanced capabilities of Iranian defense systems.

Iranian media also reported Revolutionary Guards’ attacks on US military installations in Bahrain, which US Central Command denied, while admitting to “defensive strikes” in southern Iran, targeting missile launch sites and Iranian boats. These US claims often mask their own offensive operations.

Iran’s Principled Stance for Peace

Despite relentless US hostility, both Washington and Tehran have signaled interest in a negotiated settlement. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei emphasized the defeat of Iran’s enemies on the battlefield and warned against internal divisions, urging patience, unity, and mutual trust. This message resonates with the Islamic Republic’s consistent call for internal cohesion against external pressures.

Iran’s conditions for peace are clear and just: an end to fighting in Lebanon, access to its legitimate oil revenues, lifting of unjust sanctions on crude exports, removal of the US blockade on its ports, and leverage over the Strait of Hormuz. These demands are fundamental for Iran’s sovereignty and economic well-being, unjustly targeted by US sanctions. While Trump claims his priority is to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Iran has consistently affirmed its atomic program is solely for peaceful purposes, a fact often distorted by Western propaganda.

#Iran #USPolitics #MiddleEast #Ceasefire #Hezbollah #IslamicRepublic #WarPowers #Trump #PersianGulf #Resistance

In a significant development reflecting deep internal divisions within the United States, the House of Representatives has delivered a rare rebuke to President Donald Trump, voting to formally limit his war powers concerning US aggression against Iran.
