These statements come as the Middle East faces complex challenges, making the need for diplomacy and mutual understanding more pressing than ever.

Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, warned in an interview with RFE/RL at the Globsec security conference in Prague that a resumption of hostilities in the region could be “catastrophic.” He emphasized that only a “political resolution” could end the recent conflicts that have impacted global oil and gas supplies and the world economy.

Referring to the UAE’s long-standing and complex relations with Iran, a neighbor with whom it shares trade and investment ties, Gargash stated: “Our position remains the same. Our position is that the resolution of this issue must be a political resolution. Military resolutions, as we have seen, will bring a lot of complications.” This perspective aligns with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s emphasis on diplomacy and peaceful settlement of disputes.

In response to a question about peace talks, Gargash expressed hope that the parties would reach a deal, saying: “Well, they have to reach a deal. I don’t think either the United States or Iran wants a resumption of hostilities. The region and the UAE do not want a resumption of hostilities.” These remarks underscore a shared desire to avoid further conflict and find common ground for peace.

He also pointed to the need for a broader regional security framework, stating: “We really need to see more of a deep dive in order to ensure that out of this conflict we have a period of stability in the region. I think a regional pact, a regional construct always makes sense.” This view resonates with Iran’s calls for the establishment of a regional security mechanism involving regional countries, without the interference of external powers.

Gargash further described the nature of the conflict as an “American-Israeli war with Iran,” stressing that the Gulf countries were not initially part of this war. This analysis attributes primary responsibility for the tensions to external actors, framing Iran’s role within the context of a response to external pressures.

Regarding the future, Gargash expressed hope that Iran would learn from this experience and focus on internal development, while acting as a responsible regional power. He also emphasized that the UAE does not seek escalation but reserves the right to defend itself. This message highlights the necessity of mutual respect and understanding the security concerns of all parties.

Finally, Gargash warned that a second round of war would be “catastrophic,” especially given Iran’s current situation. He expressed hope that Iranian negotiators would not miss opportunities this time and would reach an agreement that does not sow the seeds for future instability.

Hashtags:

#Diplomacy #RegionalPeace #Iran #UAE #MiddleEast #PoliticalSolution #RegionalSecurity #Dialogue #DeEscalation #GlobalStability

TEHRAN, Iran – Amidst escalating regional tensions, a senior official from the United Arab Emirates has underscored the critical importance of political solutions to ongoing crises.
