These talks, held in Tehran, focus on a potential ceasefire, sanctions relief, frozen assets, and nuclear issues, though no final agreement has been reached. Munir’s second visit to Tehran, where he met Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi twice and President Masoud Pezeshkian, underscores the significance of these mediation efforts.

Concurrently, Iran asserts its de facto control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which it considers a key leverage point for its national security. Reports indicate that some vessels have transited the waterway in coordination with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), signaling Iran’s intent to extend its sovereignty over this crucial maritime passage.

Meanwhile, the situation in southern Lebanon remains volatile, with a significant intensification of Israeli attacks around the city of Tyre. Israeli forces have issued forced displacement orders for 11 locations, affecting thousands of residents in towns and villages such as Al-Nabatieh al-Tahta and Kafr Tibnit, instructing them to evacuate immediately. Throughout the day, repeated attacks, including four violent incidents in al-Abbassieh, have been reported. Casualties include at least two deaths and several injuries, among them Syrian workers, from drone and warplane strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, from Tyre to the Bekaa Valley. Specific incidents include an air attack on a house in al-Rafid and a drone raid near Ain Baal, both causing fatalities, as well as an attack on an orchard in al-Bazouriya. Israeli drones were also observed flying low over Beirut’s southern suburbs and warplanes over Central Bekaa. The Israeli army also reported that five Israeli citizens crossed several meters into Lebanese territory, were detained, and returned, with the army condemning the incident as a serious criminal offense.

In related diplomatic efforts, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a telephone call with US President Donald Trump to discuss regional tensions and Pakistan-led initiatives aimed at preventing further escalation. The call, confirmed by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, focused on supporting Pakistan’s mediation between the US and Iran, emphasizing continued dialogue, protection of maritime navigation, and the security of strategic waterways and global energy supply chains. Sheikh Tamim reiterated Qatar’s commitment to peaceful solutions.

Adding to regional concerns, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre reported “suspicious activity” in the Gulf of Aden, with multiple vessels approached by skiffs, including one large skiff observed carrying ladders and weapons. Vessels transiting the area are advised to proceed with caution as authorities investigate this crucial waterway for global oil trade, connected to the Red Sea via the Bab al-Mandeb strait.

#IranDiplomacy #USIranTalks #LebanonUnderAttack #TyreConflict #MiddleEastCrisis #StraitOfHormuz #PakistanMediation #QatarUSCall #MaritimeSecurity #RegionalTensions

Tehran confirms that diplomatic efforts are ongoing to de-escalate tensions with the United States, with discussions involving Pakistani and Qatari officials, including Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
