SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Following the recent U.S.-Israeli actions targeting Iran on February 28, the community in San Antonio finds itself divided over the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n

A segment of San Antonio’s Iranian community has voiced strong support for intervention, organizing a demonstration this past Saturday. “We urge President Trump to complete the mission and facilitate a change in leadership,” stated Yasmin Azimi. Azimi, an Iranian native residing in San Antonio, shares with many fellow demonstrators the personal connection of having family still living in Iran.<\/p>\n

During the rally, participants chanted slogans and showcased images of individuals they claim were among the thousands massacred within Iran. One demonstrator recounted to KSAT the tragic loss of her brother-in-law. “He was returning home,” she explained, “when regime forces began firing upon people, striking him in the back of the head.” The group’s fervent plea resonated: “Please allow us to liberate our nation! Stand with us!”<\/p>\n

Economic Concerns Amidst Conflict<\/h2>\n

Domestically, the protracted conflict abroad and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have led to growing weariness among many Americans. The rising cost of consumer goods, particularly gasoline, has become a significant concern, prompting calls for President Trump to de-escalate and end the war.<\/p>\n

Azimi appealed to Americans for empathy and patience regarding the plight of the Iranian people. “Prioritize human rights above all else,” Azimi implored. “I understand the burden of high gas prices, but we ask for your continued patience and assistance in freeing our homeland.”<\/p>\n

Neptune Blackburn echoed this sentiment, advocating for greater understanding. “Individuals are being persecuted for exercising fundamental human rights,” Blackburn stated. “Our protest here aims to ensure the Iranian populace has a voice.” She emphasized the critical need to prevent the normalization of executions for mere expression of belief or demands for basic freedoms.<\/p>\n

A common aspiration among attendees at Saturday’s protest was the hope that the ongoing conflict would culminate in the removal of the Islamic Republic from power in Iran.<\/p>\n

Anti-War Voices in San Antonio<\/h2>\n

Conversely, over the past months, numerous San Antonians have actively protested the war, expressing their opposition and desire for an immediate end to the conflict. An anti-war demonstration in April, held outside City Hall, drew a substantial crowd. Among the participants was American veteran Tom Wetzler, who asserted, “It is crucial for us to speak out against what we perceive as an illegal and immoral war.”<\/p>\n

Azimi concluded by stressing the responsibility she and her fellow protesters bear: to amplify the voices of those within Iran who cannot speak freely, with the ultimate goals of halting executions and ushering in freedom for their homeland. “We are uniquely positioned to be their voice, both in the United States and globally,” Azimi affirmed.<\/p>\n
