Two Syrian nationals were tragically killed in an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon on Sunday, an incident widely reported by Lebanese media as the latest breach of a temporary ceasefire. According to the state news agency NNA, the drone targeted a motorcycle traveling on a road connecting the towns of Qlaileh and Deir Qanoun in the Tyre region.<\/p>\n
Following the deadly attack, civil defense teams, in coordination with the Lebanese army, were dispatched to recover the bodies of the two victims. Lebanese media further reported a significant escalation, noting that Israeli warplanes had conducted nine airstrikes across various locations in southern Lebanon since dawn on Sunday.<\/p>\n
This latest aggression comes despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since April 17 and was subsequently extended until mid-May. The Israeli army, however, continues its daily strikes within Lebanon and engages in ongoing exchanges of fire with Hezbollah.<\/p>\n
Since March 2, shortly after the conflict with Iran began in late February, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of over 2,700 people and displaced more than 1 million individuals. Israel also maintains a self-declared ‘buffer zone’ within Lebanese territory. Meanwhile, the United States is set to host peace talks between the two countries on May 14-15 in Washington.<\/p>\n
