This decline is notably consistent with the average market fluctuations recorded over the past 14 years, indicating a stable, predictable trend rather than a sharp downturn.

Sector Performance Overview

Among the various segments, the Supermini sector experienced the most significant percentage decline, with an average reduction of 1.9% for three-year-old models, equating to around £195. Following closely were the Executive, Large Executive, MPV, and SUV segments, which saw values decrease by 1.7% and 1.4% respectively.

Within the SUV category, performance varied by size. Large SUVs proved to be the most robust, showing only a 1% dip at the three-year-old mark. In contrast, small and medium SUVs recorded more pronounced declines of 1.5% and 1.6% respectively.

Other segments also showed varied movements: City Car values fell by 1.3%. Lower, Medium, and Luxury Executive models performed slightly better, each experiencing a 1.1% movement. The Upper Medium sector stood out as one of the stronger mainstream performers, recording a relatively modest reduction of just 0.5%.

Expert Insights and Future Outlook

Chris Plumb, Head of Current Valuations for Solera cap hpi, commented on the market’s recent behavior: “After a period where monthly movements had been less favourable to seasonal norms, April felt like a return to more familiar market conditions following the Easter bank holiday period.”

Plumb also highlighted a positive trend in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): “BEVs in particular showed a late improvement towards the end of the month, and while it remains too early to draw firm conclusions, there will be some hope that this momentum can carry into the months ahead.” Interestingly, the strongest BEV performers during this period were models that had previously experienced some of the largest declines earlier in the year, suggesting a potential market correction or renewed interest.

Fuel Type Performance

In terms of fuel types, Diesel vehicles were the weakest performers, with values declining by 1.3% for three-year-old models at the 60,000-mile benchmark. This trend reflects an increasing caution among both trade buyers and retailers regarding stocking diesel vehicles, partly influenced by the current cost of refuelling.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) followed with a 1.1% decline, while petrol and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) recorded similar, more stable movements of approximately 1%.

#UsedCarMarket #CarValues #AutomotiveIndustry #EconomicOutlook #GeopoliticalImpact #BEVPerformance #DieselCars #HybridVehicles #SoleraCapHPI #MarketAnalysis

Used car values have demonstrated remarkable resilience, maintaining a steady performance despite prevailing economic anxieties and geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East, according to experts at Solera cap hpi.
