Trump’s remarks came after King Charles’s address to Congress, where the monarch advocated for a robust NATO and aid for Ukraine—positions that have previously drawn criticism from the former American leader.

Trump has frequently lambasted the United Kingdom for its perceived failure to join strikes against Tehran, also branding Labour leader Keir Starmer as “weak and indecisive.” Speaking about King Charles, Trump stated, “The King is fantastic. We spent a lot of time together. We had a lot of talk. We talked about this also, and he loves his country, and he’s a great king, and he’s a great friend of mine.” He added, “And I think if he were doing that, if that were up to him, he would have probably helped us with Iran.” Trump further praised the King as a “phenomenal representative” for his country.

During a state visit, Trump also claimed that King Charles had concurred with him on the necessity of preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear bomb. He publicly stated at a state banquet, “We have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we’re never going to let that opponent ever – Charles agrees with me, even more than I do – we’re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon.” In a diplomatic response, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson noted, “The King is naturally mindful of his Government’s long-standing and well-known position on the prevention of nuclear proliferation.”

Amid escalating tensions, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and her US counterpart Marco Rubio held discussions in Washington regarding the urgent need to restore the free movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing conflict with Iran and the resulting standoff between the US and Tehran, despite a fragile truce, has effectively closed this vital shipping lane. This disruption, a major route for oil and gas supplies, has sent energy prices soaring and inflicted damage on the global economy.

First Sea Lord General Sir Gwyn Jenkins highlighted the critical importance of “sea power,” citing the international shock caused by the strait’s closure. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, however, dismissed efforts led by the UK and France to secure the waterway as “silly,” suggesting Europe needed the strait “much more than we do” and that it was “much more their fight than ours.” He urged European nations to have “less fancy conferences in Europe and get in a boat.” Hegseth confirmed to Congress that the Pentagon had “looked at all aspects” of the risk of Iran blocking the route, with US military chief General Dan Caine adding that “a full range of military options” are always considered.

Earlier, Trump issued a stern warning to Iran to “get smart” about a nuclear deal, appearing to threaten a return to military action. He posted an image on Truth Social depicting himself with an assault rifle against an exploding hillside, captioned “no more Mr Nice Guy,” and wrote, “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear (sic) deal. They better get smart soon!” Trump has consistently justified the US-Israeli offensive as a measure to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

#Trump #KingCharles #IranConflict #StraitOfHormuz #USUKRelations #NuclearDeal #MiddleEast #Geopolitics #MilitaryAction #EnergySecurity

Former US President Donald Trump has asserted that Britain’s King Charles III would have likely supported the United States in a military offensive against Iran.
