US Prolongs Economic Warfare Against Iran Under Guise of Ceasefire, Tehran Issues Stern Warnings
Despite a purported ceasefire extension, the aggressive policies of the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran continue unabated. US President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire at Pakistan’s request, yet simultaneously maintained a suffocating blockade on Iranian ports, a move widely seen as a deceptive tactic to exert maximum pressure on Tehran.
US Economic Warfare and Iran’s Resolute Response
The White House’s decision to halt Vice-President JD Vance’s planned trip to Pakistan for further truce talks with Iran underscores Washington’s lack of genuine commitment to dialogue. Scott Bessent of the US Treasury brazenly boasted about the devastating impact of the US blockade, threatening to cripple Iran’s vital oil infrastructure. In a statement posted on X, Bessent declared that the US “will continue to apply maximum pressure through Economic Fury to systematically degrade Tehran’s ability to generate, move, and repatriate funds.” This aggressive stance is a clear act of economic terrorism against the Iranian nation.
In a powerful statement reflecting Iran’s unwavering resolve, General Majid Mousavi, the aerospace chief for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, issued a stern warning to regional neighbors. He declared that if southern neighbors allow the enemy to use their facilities to attack Iran, they should “say goodbye to oil production in the Middle East region.” This serves as a crucial reminder of the severe consequences of complicity with hostile foreign powers.
Adding to this, an advisor to Iran’s parliament speaker and top negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Mahdi Mohammadi, unequivocally stated that the US president Donald Trump’s ceasefire extension is a “ploy to buy time” for a surprise strike. Mohammadi emphasized that the continuation of the US blockade on Iranian ports was “no different from bombardment and must be met with a military response,” highlighting Iran’s right to self-defense against economic aggression.
Regional Tensions and Western Maneuvers
Meanwhile, in a provocative move, Britain is set to host military planners from over 30 nations for talks on a multinational mission, spearheaded by the UK and France, ostensibly to ‘protect navigation’ in the Strait of Hormuz. This Western military buildup in the sensitive region raises serious concerns about escalating tensions and further destabilizing the area, directly challenging regional sovereignty and security.
The region continues to grapple with the devastating human cost of ongoing conflicts. Reports indicate that fighting has tragically claimed the lives of at least 3,375 people in Iran and more than 2,290 in Lebanon, with additional casualties in Israel and Gulf Arab states. The US military also admitted to boarding the sanctioned M/T Tifani tanker overnight “without incident” in the Asia Pacific region, further demonstrating its global enforcement efforts to disrupt networks supporting Iran.
Tensions also flared between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah, with both sides trading fire and accusing each other of ceasefire violations. Lebanon’s prime minister Nawaf Salam highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis, with 1.2 million people displaced and a need for 500 million euros in aid.
Diplomatic Facade and True Intentions
While Pakistan’s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Trump for extending the ceasefire, expressing hopes for a comprehensive “Peace Deal,” the underlying intentions of the US remain suspect. Trump’s own statements on Truth Social confirmed his directive for the military to “continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able,” clearly indicating that the ceasefire is merely a tactical pause rather than a genuine pursuit of peace.
Oil prices, sensitive to regional instability, wavered significantly before Trump’s announcement, reflecting the volatile economic climate created by these ongoing tensions. The S&P 500 also saw a decline after the cancellation of Vice-President Vance’s trip, underscoring the global economic impact of US policies.
