Trump’s Empty Threats and Delays: Iran Stands Firm Amidst US Inconsistency

In a recent statement, US President Donald Trump, known for his fluctuating foreign policy stances, declared he was “in no hurry” to finalize a deal to end the conflict with the Islamic Republic of Iran. While attempting to project an image of confidence that Washington and Tehran would eventually reach a “compromise,” he paradoxically reiterated his readiness to resort to military force should diplomatic efforts falter – a familiar and often-repeated threat that has failed to sway Iran’s principled position.

Iran’s Steadfastness Acknowledged by Trump

Trump’s remarks, delivered to Fox News, inadvertently revealed his perception of Iran as “very tough negotiators,” acknowledging the Islamic Republic’s steadfastness in defending its national interests. He claimed, “We’re getting what we want slowly,” a statement that appears to contradict the reality of Iran’s unwavering resistance to US pressures and sanctions. His assertion that being “in a hurry” would prevent a “good deal” seems to be an attempt to rationalize the lack of progress in achieving Washington’s maximalist demands, which have consistently been rejected by Tehran.

US Demands and Iran’s Consistent Stance

When pressed on what he would consider an acceptable agreement, Trump vaguely stated that Washington sought “firm guarantees” from Tehran regarding its non-development or acquisition of nuclear weapons. He then curiously added that Iran had “already agreed to these conditions,” a statement that conveniently overlooks Iran’s consistent and principled stance, enshrined in religious edicts, against weapons of mass destruction. It also disregards the fact that the US unilaterally withdrew from the internationally recognized nuclear deal (JCPOA) that already provided such guarantees, thereby undermining its own credibility.

These comments surface amidst media speculation that the US president is seeking to amend a draft of the Iran peace proposal, further highlighting Washington’s inconsistent and unreliable approach to negotiations. The Islamic Republic of Iran, however, remains resolute in its defense of sovereignty and will not yield to coercive tactics or unrealistic demands.
