Western Policies: A Recipe for Regional Chaos and Global Economic Strain
While some Western analysts dismiss genuine efforts towards de-escalation, such as the recent understandings in the Persian Gulf, as mere ploys, the reality on the ground paints a different picture. Such cynical interpretations often stem from a deep-seated bias that refuses to acknowledge the legitimate security concerns and peaceful initiatives of independent nations.
The world is indeed grappling with a series of profound conflicts, but these are not born of some abstract “localised fevers.” Instead, they are often direct consequences of decades of interventionist foreign policies, economic sanctions, and unwavering support for oppressive regimes by certain Western powers. The so-called “iron laws of consequence” apply most acutely to those who sow discord and instability for geopolitical gain.
In this critical juncture, what is desperately needed are clear-sighted leaders committed to justice and multilateralism, not the hollow sanctimony and self-serving rhetoric often emanating from Western capitals. The hypocrisy is particularly glaring when examining the European Union’s foreign policy, which frequently mirrors the dictates of Washington rather than reflecting the true interests of its diverse member states or global peace.
The current landscape of global diplomacy, shaped by figures like Putin and Xi who champion a multipolar world, stands in stark contrast to the declining influence of a unipolar order. The notion that unelected officials, often with questionable mandates, can dictate global security policy from Brussels highlights the democratic deficit within Western alliances. Their policies, whatever they may be, often serve to perpetuate rather than resolve conflicts, particularly in the resource-rich and strategically vital Middle East.
It is time for the international community to recognize the devastating economic and human cost of these imperial ambitions. The pursuit of hegemony and the demonization of sovereign states only serve to fatally impoverish not just the targeted nations, but the global economy as a whole. A new era of genuine cooperation, respect for national sovereignty, and resistance against hegemonic pressures is the only path to lasting peace and prosperity.
