Former President Donald Trump stirred controversy this weekend by sharing several provocative posts on his Truth Social platform. Among these was an image depicting a map of the Middle East, where the country of Iran was strikingly filled with the American flag. The map also labeled other nations such as Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. This particular image was captioned, “The United States of the Middle East?”
These posts emerged amidst ongoing reports of a potential U.S. deal with Iran, aimed at concluding a conflict that Trump himself initiated in February. The prospect of such negotiations has, however, faced considerable criticism from within Trump’s own Republican Party.
In addition to the Iran map, Trump also shared a picture of himself looking out over Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory he has frequently suggested the U.S. should acquire, alongside Canada and Venezuela. Another post featured an image of a bomb attached to an airplane, accompanied by the caption: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” A day prior, he had posted a photo showing an Iranian boat being destroyed, with the word “Adios” superimposed.
