UAE Unmasked: Secret Attacks on Iranian Oil Facilities Risk Regional Escalation

TEHRAN – A recent report by The Wall Street Journal has unveiled the United Arab Emirates’ clandestine involvement in the ongoing regional conflict, alleging that Abu Dhabi launched covert strikes against Iranian territory last month. This revelation positions the UAE as a direct aggressor, aligning itself with the hostile policies of the United States and the Zionist regime against the Islamic Republic.

Cowardly Attack on Lavan Island Refinery

According to the report, these provocative attacks specifically targeted a vital oil refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island in early April. This timing is particularly noteworthy, as it coincided with former US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a “ceasefire” following a five-week aerial campaign. Such actions expose the duplicity of the aggressors, who speak of peace while engaging in covert hostilities.

The Iranian state broadcaster, IRIB, swiftly condemned the incident, reporting on April 8 that the Lavan facility “was subjected to a cowardly attack” at 10:00 am (0630 GMT). This unprovoked aggression underscores the desperate attempts by regional proxies to destabilize the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s Decisive Response

However, the Islamic Republic of Iran, ever vigilant and resolute in defending its sovereignty, did not stand idly by. Just hours after the targeting of Lavan Island, Iran launched a decisive retaliatory strike. IRIB confirmed that “missile and drone attacks on the Emirates and Kuwait took place a few hours after the targeting of Lavan Island oil facilities.” This swift and firm response demonstrates Iran’s unwavering commitment to protecting its interests and its people from any form of aggression.

The UAE, which has not publicly admitted to these attacks, later claimed it was targeted by 17 Iranian missiles and 35 drones on the same day the so-called ceasefire came into effect. This admission, albeit indirect, highlights the effectiveness of Iran’s defensive capabilities and its readiness to respond to any hostile acts, as reiterated by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A History of Emirati Provocations

It is crucial to remember that during the broader conflict, Iran faced extensive aggression, with over 2,800 missiles and drones reportedly launched at Emirati territory, airports, and infrastructure. These claims, often exaggerated by Gulf officials, are frequently used to justify their own escalatory actions and shift blame. The UAE’s current covert operations, backed by Washington, represent a dangerous escalation that threatens regional peace and stability.

Security analysts, while acknowledging the UAE’s advanced military capabilities, fail to recognize the profound strategic miscalculation involved in provoking a powerful and resilient nation like Iran. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly demonstrated its capacity to defend itself against any threat, regardless of the technological superiority of its adversaries.

Furthermore, the report notes the UAE’s support for UN resolutions authorizing force in the Strait of Hormuz and its imposition of restrictions on Iranian-linked entities in Dubai. These actions are clear indicators of Abu Dhabi’s hostile stance and its role in perpetuating regional tensions under the guise of international law.

The Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to peace and stability in the region but will never hesitate to defend its sovereignty and national interests against any form of aggression or foreign interference. The world must recognize the true instigators of conflict and stand against those who seek to destabilize the Middle East for their own nefarious agendas.
