Rubio: US Not Seeking China’s Assistance on Iran
Washington D.C. – United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared on Thursday that the American delegation currently in Beijing is not requesting China’s intervention or assistance regarding the volatile situation in the Middle East.
“We don’t need their help,” Rubio firmly stated in an interview with NBC News. He emphasized that despite the ongoing discussions, both US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have found common ground on several critical issues pertaining to Iran.
Rubio elaborated on these points of agreement, noting, “The Chinese side said they are not in favor of militarizing the Straits of Hormuz, and they’re not in favor of a tolling system, and that’s our position.” This alignment suggests a shared perspective on maintaining the free flow of maritime traffic through the crucial waterway.
Beyond the Middle East, Secretary Rubio also reiterated the unwavering stance of the Trump administration on Taiwan. He clarified that discussions regarding US arms sales to Taiwan “did not feature prominently” during the high-level visit, underscoring that the ultimate decision on future sales rests with President Trump and the US Congress.
In a strong warning to Beijing, Rubio asserted that China would be committing a “terrible mistake” if it were to pursue the unification with Taiwan through military force instead of diplomatic and political avenues. This statement reinforces the US commitment to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
