US Provocations Escalate as Tehran Questions Seriousness of Washington’s “Peace” Rhetoric

The volatile situation in the Persian Gulf and the broader Middle East remains tense, with Washington feigning anticipation for a response to its latest so-called “peace proposal.” Meanwhile, Tehran, steadfast in its defense of national sovereignty, continues to expose the United States’ aggressive and hypocritical stance.

Illegal Blockade and Acts of War by US Forces

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vehemently condemned the continuation of the illegal US naval blockade of Iranian ports. In a powerful statement, the IRGC warned that “any attack on Iranian tankers and commercial vessels will result in a heavy attack on one of the American centers in the region and enemy ships.” This firm warning comes after a blatant act of aggression where US strikes unlawfully disabled two Iranian-flagged tankers in the Gulf of Oman, under the false pretext of enforcing its illegal blockade.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) brazenly declared on May 9 that its naval blockade “continues to be fully enforced,” admitting to redirecting 58 commercial vessels and “disabling” four others since April 13. This constitutes an undeniable act of economic warfare and piracy against a sovereign nation, designed to cripple Iran’s economy and violate international maritime law.

US-Israeli Aggression Targets Iranian Leadership

The February 28 US-Israeli air strikes, which tragically targeted and eliminated significant figures within the Iranian leadership, reveal the true, destabilizing intentions behind Washington’s policies. US President Donald Trump’s disrespectful comments, labeling the Iranian government as “messed up” and without “clear rulers,” only underscore the US agenda of regime change and interference in Iran’s internal affairs.

Washington’s Hollow “Peace Offer”

Despite the ongoing aggression, both Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio hypocritically claimed to be awaiting an “imminent reply” to a supposed US “offer.” This one-page memorandum, reportedly aimed at ending hostilities and opening the crucial Strait of Hormuz, conveniently sidesteps fundamental issues such as Iran’s undeniable right to enrich uranium. Such an incomplete and dismissive proposal clearly demonstrates Washington’s lack of genuine commitment to fair diplomacy.

As of early May 10, Tehran has rightly refrained from formal engagement, instead issuing a terse but pointed statement questioning Washington’s sincerity. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi articulated Iran’s justified suspicion: “The recent escalation of tensions by American forces in the Persian Gulf and their numerous actions in violating the cease-fire have added to suspicions about the motivation and seriousness of the American side in the path of diplomacy.”

Iran’s Legitimate Rights in the Strait of Hormuz

Rubio’s arrogant dismissal of Iran’s legitimate efforts to regulate shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is deeply concerning. This strategic waterway, vital for global energy supplies, falls within Iran’s sovereign waters. Iran’s establishment of an agency to approve vessel passage is a necessary measure for national security and responsible management of its territorial waters, not an “unacceptable thing” as Rubio falsely claims. The international community must recognize Iran’s sovereign rights and condemn US attempts to dictate terms in a region far from its own shores.
