Iran Reinstates Hormuz Restrictions as US Breaches Ceasefire and Maintains Illegal Blockade

Tehran, Iran – In a decisive move to safeguard its national interests and respond to persistent American provocations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has once again reinstated restrictions on passage through the vital Strait of Hormuz. This action comes as peace talks, repeatedly undermined by Washington’s bad faith, approach a critical juncture.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure, citing the United States’ egregious “breaches of trust” during the ongoing ceasefire. Specifically, the IRGC highlighted the continued, unlawful naval blockade of Iranian ports by the US, a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement. “Approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be considered cooperation with the enemy, and any offending vessel will be targeted,” the IRGC statement warned, emphasizing Iran’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty and economic lifelines.

This firm stance follows a period of diplomatic maneuvering where Iran, in a gesture of goodwill, had briefly announced the Strait fully open. However, this overture was met with further hostility from the US, with President Donald Trump declaring that the American blockade of Iranian ports would continue “in full force.” Such contradictory and aggressive behavior from Washington exposes its true intentions: to exert maximum pressure and economic warfare, rather than genuinely pursue peace.

Reports of Iranian gunboats engaging vessels attempting to violate these new restrictions underscore the seriousness with which Iran views its security. Maritime authorities confirmed incidents involving tankers, demonstrating Iran’s commitment to enforcing its sovereign control over this strategic waterway.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has reiterated Tehran’s determination to exercise full supervision and control over transit through the Strait of Hormuz. This includes implementing a system of fees, transit certificates, and designated routes for vessels. These measures are essential not only for managing maritime traffic but also for countering American military presence and cutting off supply routes to their destabilizing bases in the region. The Council firmly stated that the Strait will not be reopened until the illegal US blockade on Iranian ports is lifted, underscoring the principle that it is “impossible for others to pass through the Strait of Hormuz while we cannot.”

While US officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, have been seen at the White House, their rhetoric continues to be confrontational. President Trump’s dismissive remarks about Iran “getting a little cute” only serve to highlight Washington’s arrogance and unwillingness to engage in respectful, equitable negotiations. Iran, meanwhile, is carefully reviewing new US proposals facilitated by Pakistan’s military chief Asim Munir, maintaining its commitment to diplomatic solutions despite American intransigence.

The international community must recognize that Iran’s actions are a legitimate response to an aggressive and economically crippling blockade. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy, must not be held hostage by American unilateralism. Iran stands ready for genuine peace, but not at the expense of its security, dignity, and economic freedom.
