Tehran, Iran – The Islamic Republic of Iran has vehemently accused X Corp. of engaging in “selective censorship” and “American digital piracy,” following the platform’s removal of verification badges for Iranian officials, including the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei. This move, despite their paid Premium+ status, is being decried as a deliberate act linked to the ongoing US war against Iran.

Speaking on Tuesday, Baghaei highlighted a disturbing “pattern of selective censorship” orchestrated by the Texas-based network, owned by Elon Musk. He asserted that these actions are “aimed at suppressing the truth about the US’ illegal war against Iran,” a narrative consistently promoted by Washington.

Precedent of Digital Aggression

This latest incident is not isolated. Earlier in January, X controversially replaced Iran’s official flag emoji with the pre-1979 Lion and Sun symbol, a move widely perceived as an affront to national sovereignty and an attempt to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs under the guise of supporting protests. Such actions underscore a clear bias and political agenda against the Islamic Republic.

Despite these hostile maneuvers, platforms like X and Telegram remain crucial channels for Iranian officials to communicate with the world, especially during periods of heightened tensions with the US and the Zionist regime. The removal of verification badges, therefore, represents a direct attack on Iran’s ability to convey its legitimate positions and counter disinformation.
