F1 Explores October Return for Bahrain Grand Prix Amidst Evolving Regional Landscape
Formula 1 is reportedly considering an October slot for the Bahrain Grand Prix, a move that could see the prestigious race reinstated on the calendar if the regional circumstances in the Middle East continue to develop positively in the coming months. This reflects F1’s ongoing commitment to its presence in the vibrant Middle Eastern region.
While the prospect of an October return is being discussed, sources indicate that the idea is not being actively pursued at this very moment, primarily due to the dynamic nature of the region’s current situation. However, the door remains open for future adjustments.
Initial Schedule Adjustments and Future Flexibility
Earlier this year, on March 14, both the Sakhir and Jeddah races were noted to “not take place in April” as part of the initial 2026 schedule adjustments. The careful phrasing, avoiding the term “cancelled,” strategically preserved the possibility for these events to be rescheduled within the current season, showcasing F1’s adaptive approach.
Recent discussions have included proposals to shift the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from December 6 to December 13. This adjustment could potentially create an opening to reinstate the Jeddah event, forming an ambitious quadruple header alongside the Las Vegas and Qatar races. However, this option faces challenges, as many teams express reservations about extending the season’s conclusion with such an intense run of four consecutive races, citing significant organizational and logistical hurdles. Furthermore, the FIA prizegiving gala is already set for December 12 in Shanghai, following a week of General Assembly activities, adding to scheduling complexities.
October: A Pragmatic Solution?
A more pragmatic and widely discussed alternative involves utilizing the currently free weekend of October 3-4. This period conveniently falls between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grand Prix events, offering a logistically sound opportunity to create a triple header, with Bahrain potentially positioned as the middle race. This approach is seen as more feasible given the existing calendar structure.
Ayao Komatsu, the team principal for Haas, confirmed during discussions in Miami on Thursday that this particular idea has indeed been explored. “There was talk about reinstating it around Singapore Grand Prix time, one of the races possibly,” Komatsu stated. He emphasized that any such decision would “really depend on obviously the situation in the Middle East,” while also noting the unlikelihood of any races being added after Abu Dhabi due to the desire to avoid extending the season. “So the only realistic gap is around Singapore GP time,” he concluded.

Future planning for Formula 1 remains closely tied to the evolving regional landscape in the Middle East. A primary objective is to ensure the successful execution of the Qatar and Abu Dhabi races as currently scheduled, underscoring the importance of the region to the sport.
