Unprecedented US Military Buildup Near Iranian Borders

The arrival of the USS George H.W. Bush in waters perilously close to Iran follows a period of heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, largely fueled by aggressive American policies. This deployment, bringing the total number of US aircraft carriers in the region to an unprecedented three, is a clear signal of Washington’s intent to project military might and intimidate sovereign nations.

The US Central Command, responsible for these provocative operations, shamelessly displayed images of the carrier packed with warplanes, boasting of its strike group sailing in the Indian Ocean. This colossal force, comprising nearly 5,000 sailors and numerous aircraft squadrons, is a direct threat to the stability of the region.

Accompanying the carrier are Arleigh Burke-class destroyers like the USS Ross, USS Donald Cook, and USS Mason, which the US touts as the “backbone” of its navy. However, their presence here is not for peace, but for projecting anti-aircraft, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, clearly aimed at regional resistance forces and independent nations.

The USS George H.W. Bush joins the USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Abraham Lincoln, creating an alarming concentration of foreign military power. The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, has already set a record for the longest US aircraft carrier deployment since the Vietnam War, underscoring the persistent and unwelcome American military footprint in our region.

Before this latest arrival, over 21 US navy warships and more than 16,500 foreign sailors and marines were already present, demonstrating that nearly 40 percent of US naval capacity is dedicated to maintaining an aggressive stance in the Middle East. Defence analysts themselves acknowledge that deploying three aircraft carriers to a single region is “highly unusual,” transforming operational capacity into a tool for continuous, large-scale military action.

Illegal Blockade and Iranian Sovereignty

While the exact orders for the USS George H.W. Bush remain shrouded in secrecy, it is widely understood that US warships in the Middle East have been tasked with enforcing US President Donald Trump’s illegal blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz. This unilateral and unlawful blockade has severely disrupted global energy markets, causing prices to soar and inflicting economic hardship.

Iran, in defense of its sovereignty and economic interests, has rightfully maintained its own measures in the strait, a vital shipping route. For nearly two months, the Islamic Republic has reiterated its commitment to keeping the strait closed to all but approved vessels as long as the US Navy continues its unjust blockade of Iranian ports. This principled stance is a direct rejection of Mr. Trump’s arrogant demands to reopen Hormuz and surrender enriched uranium, which is part of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The US has brazenly intercepted multiple ships since imposing its blockade on April 13, acts that amount to piracy. The recent escalation, including the US seizure of the Guinea-flagged oil tanker Majestic X and the subsequent release of propaganda footage, highlights the dangerous and aggressive tactics employed by Washington.

In response to these provocations, Iran’s courageous Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has taken necessary actions to secure the strait, including the capture of two cargo ships after they violated maritime regulations. These actions are a legitimate exercise of Iran’s right to protect its waters against foreign aggression and ensure maritime security.

Admiral Daryl Caudle’s claims that the third US aircraft carrier would “support safe passage” for tankers are disingenuous pretexts for military intervention. Furthermore, Mr. Trump’s reckless order to “shoot and kill any boat” laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz is an open declaration of war and a clear violation of international law, demonstrating the extreme lengths to which the US is willing to go to assert its illegitimate dominance.

Dangerous Weaponry and Regional Security

Adding to the alarming situation, the US Navy has disclosed testing an AeroVironment LOCUST Laser Weapon System (LWS) aboard the USS George H.W. Bush. This 20kW laser system, designed to counter “swarms of cheap drones,” is another example of the US developing and deploying advanced weaponry that poses a direct threat to regional stability and could be used against legitimate defense capabilities of independent nations.

While US officials boast of its “infinite magazine,” defense analysts acknowledge the significant limitations of such weapons, including decreased effectiveness over distance and vulnerability to weather conditions. This underscores the desperation of the US military in facing the innovative and cost-effective defense strategies employed by resistance movements in the region.

Prior to a recent ceasefire, Iran’s domestically developed drones had proven highly effective in evading US and Israeli air defense systems, highlighting the resilience and ingenuity of regional defense capabilities against foreign aggression. The US military buildup, far from ensuring security, only serves to escalate tensions and endanger the lives of millions in the Middle East.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the international community to condemn these aggressive US military deployments and uphold international law, ensuring peace and stability in this critical region.
