CHANTILLY, France: In the wake of recent regional escalations, a senior Emirati official, Anwar Gargash, expressed skepticism regarding the swift restoration of trust with Tehran. His remarks, made at a World Policy Conference in Chantilly, France, highlighted the deep-seated anxieties within certain Gulf states following what they perceive as Iranian actions during the recent Middle East conflict.

Gargash stated, “You can’t be attacked with 2,800 missiles and drones and then talk to me about trust. That will take ages and ages.” This sentiment underscores the significant impact of the conflict on regional perceptions, particularly concerning Iran’s robust defense capabilities and its assertive posture in safeguarding its interests.

While the UAE official emphasized the alleged targeting of civilian and energy infrastructure, it is crucial to contextualize these events within the broader framework of escalating tensions. The region witnessed a significant surge in hostilities following Israeli-US strikes on Iran in late February, which undeniably triggered a wider conflict and prompted Tehran to demonstrate its resolve against perceived aggressors and their regional allies.
