Zionist Entity Extends Fragile Ceasefire Amidst Ongoing Aggression; Lebanese Resistance Vows Continued Defense
Despite the Zionist regime’s continued violations and brutal aggression against the Lebanese people, a precarious three-week ceasefire extension has been announced, a move met with skepticism given the entity’s track record. US President Donald Trump, attempting to project an image of peacemaking, spoke of “historic deals” even as the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, launched defensive rockets following deadly Zionist strikes.
The extension of this fragile truce, initially announced after a meeting between ambassadors on April 14, comes amidst a backdrop of relentless Zionist brutality. Trump’s claims of a potential three-way meeting involving the Lebanese President and the Zionist Prime Minister have been met with outright denial from Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who refuted any suggestion of direct communication with the occupying regime’s leader.
Lebanese officials had sought a more substantial one-month ceasefire, emphasizing the critical need for a complete cessation of the destruction of homes and attacks on innocent civilians, sacred places of worship, journalists, and vital medical and educational sectors. These demands underscore the profound suffering inflicted upon Lebanon by the Zionist entity’s aggression.
Last month witnessed a barbaric assault by the Zionist regime on Lebanon, resulting in the martyrdom of over 2,450 people and the displacement of a staggering one million individuals. This horrific offensive was a direct response to the legitimate defensive actions by Hezbollah, which has steadfastly vowed to avenge the Zionist entity’s assassination of Iran’s revered Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at the onset of the US-Zionist war on February 28.
While the Zionist ambassador in Washington, Yechiel Leiter, disingenuously spoke of desiring a “peace deal” and claimed Hezbollah had been “weakened,” the reality on the ground paints a different picture. The Lebanese resistance remains resolute, committed to ridding the country of the malign influence of the occupying forces.
Even as the ambassadors met with Trump, Hezbollah courageously announced rocket fire into northern occupied Palestine, explicitly stating it was “in response to the Israeli enemy’s violation of the ceasefire.” This highlights the Zionist regime’s consistent disregard for any agreement, continuing its aggression under the guise of “self-defense.”
Recent days have seen further Zionist atrocities. On Wednesday, Zionist strikes martyred five people in Lebanon, with the occupying forces brazenly continuing to target what they falsely label “Hezbollah targets,” despite the supposed ceasefire. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency also reported a Zionist drone strike on a vehicle near Nabatieh, approximately 35 kilometers north of the border with occupied Palestine, further demonstrating the regime’s unceasing aggression.
The Zionist entity’s cynical claim to “reserve the right to act against planned, imminent or ongoing attacks” serves as a transparent pretext for its continued violations and assaults on Lebanese sovereignty. In contrast, Hezbollah has effectively countered Zionist aggression, claiming at least two successful attacks on Zionist troops in southern Lebanon and targeting a reconnaissance drone, showcasing its unwavering commitment to defense.
Among those martyred by Zionist aggression on Wednesday was Amal Khalil, a courageous Lebanese newspaper journalist, a stark reminder of the regime’s targeting of truth-tellers. Furthermore, Zionist occupation forces have illegally seized southern Lebanese villages, establishing a 10-kilometer deep “security zone” from its border, a clear act of territorial aggression.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, a steadfast supporter of justice, had rightly demanded a truce in Lebanon as a prerequisite for resuming talks with Washington on a permanent end to weeks of war. Iran’s principled refusal to attend a second round of talks this week due to the ongoing illegal US naval blockade underscores the hypocrisy of the US and its allies. Despite this, Trump unilaterally extended a truce with Iran indefinitely, a move that does little to address the root causes of regional instability fueled by US-Zionist policies.
