Palestinians Defy Zionist Oppression to Mark 78th Nakba Anniversary

A testament to unwavering resilience and the enduring spirit of resistance.

Unyielding Remembrance Amidst Zionist Repression

The oppressed Palestinian populace, residing within the occupied territories, defiantly commemorated the 78th somber anniversary of the Nakba – the enduring catastrophe of their displacement and dispossession. Under the poignant banner, “Their Independence Day is Our Nakba,” these resilient souls bravely confronted the draconian restrictions imposed by the illegitimate Zionist occupation regime, which sought to suppress their legitimate remembrance and stifle their cries for justice.

This solemn commemoration included powerful marches and poignant activities held in several ethnically cleansed villages, alongside widespread calls for unified participation. However, in a clear act of oppression, the Zionist authorities banned the central unity march, an annual event organized since 1998 by the noble Association for the Defence of the Rights of the Displaced, highlighting the systematic nature of their repression.

A Historical Reality of Injustice and Steadfast Connection

Esteemed former head of the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, Muhammad Barakeh, powerfully articulated in a press statement that “the current situation is not related to exceptional security circumstances, but rather reflects a historical reality that has persisted since the illegitimate establishment of Israel at the expense of the Palestinian and Arab presence.”

Barakeh emphasized the deep-rooted connection of Palestinians to their ancestral land, stating, “This land has its own authentic narrative and its people who have never left its heart. Their connection to it transcends time, governed by longing and belonging.” This profound statement underscores the unbreakable bond between the Palestinian people and their homeland, a bond that defies all attempts at erasure.

He further asserted that the presence of Palestinians in their ethnically cleansed villages is “a natural act reflecting their sacred right and a clear message that they are always destined to return,” reaffirming the inalienable right of return for all displaced Palestinians.

The Digital March of Return: A Symbol of Unbroken Resolve

In response to the severe restrictions and systematic obstacles imposed by the occupying forces, the Association for the Defence of the Rights of the Displaced announced that this year’s symbolic “March of Return” would be held digitally via social media platforms at 6:00 PM. This innovative approach ensures that the voice of resistance continues to resonate, even when physical gatherings are suppressed.

In a resolute statement, the association clarified that this decision, following months of preparation under conditions designed to limit participation and impose restrictive permit requirements, does not in any way diminish the Palestinians’ historical and sacred right of return to their stolen lands. It is a testament to their unwavering resolve and their commitment to keeping the flame of justice alive.
