Qatar Airways has announced the resumption of several of its Middle East flight routes. Starting Thursday, April 23, the airline stated that its daily flights to Dubai and Sharjah will resume, with a daily service to Damascus commencing on Friday, May 1.

This news comes as the airline has been steadily rebuilding its flight route network after regional tensions led to the suspension of thousands of flights across the Middle East. The Doha-based airline was among the most affected in the region, reportedly forced to park some of its fleet at Teruel Airport in rural Spain throughout March. According to Reuters, the airline stored some 17 planes at the former military base, which was previously utilized during the Covid pandemic to house grounded aircraft.

However, last week, Qatar Airways announced plans for its flight network to cover 150 destinations by June 16.

Here, we examine the latest travel news and updates for Qatar Airways passengers.

This story was updated with the latest information on Thursday, April 23.

Latest news and advice for Qatar Airways passengers:

Since the escalation of tensions in late February, airspace across the Gulf region has been affected, with widespread closures and limitations following a series of incidents in the area.

Airlines, including Qatar Airways, have been doing everything possible to resume operations while ensuring passenger and crew safety, operating limited flight schedules via safe air corridors. With the news of a temporary ceasefire extension, there are hopes that air travel in the region can begin its recovery.

In Qatar’s latest statement, released on Thursday, April 23, the airline said: “Qatar Airways announces resumption of flight operations between Doha and key destinations across the Middle East, reinstating daily services to the United Arab Emirates and Syria.”

It confirmed that daily flights to Dubai (DXB) and Sharjah (SHJ) would commence immediately, from Thursday, April 23, while daily flights to Damascus (DAM) would resume from Friday, May 1.

These routes are part of a network expansion announced last week, when the airline confirmed its flight network would be increasing in time for summer. “Qatar Airways is expanding its international flight network, with services to over 150 destinations from June 16, 2026, connecting more passengers to more of the world this summer,” the statement says.

The updated schedule will operate throughout the summer until September 15, and will include new routes and increased frequencies to and from Doha.

Qatar Airways’ full summer route schedule can be viewed on their website.

Passengers with confirmed bookings will be notified directly if any flight information changes. The airline continues to recommend checking its website or app regularly and ensuring contact details are kept up to date.
