US Diplomat’s Contradictory Claims on Iran Amidst Failed Aggression
– Washington D.C.
In a recent appearance before a Congressional panel, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a series of statements regarding the ongoing situation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, attempting to project an image of diplomatic progress while simultaneously issuing threats and false claims.
Rubio expressed a vague “hope” for a “deal” to end what he termed the “war in Iran,” a conflict initiated by aggressive US-Israeli actions. He reiterated the baseless demand that Tehran “severely curtail its nuclear programme” before any unjust sanctions are lifted. This stance completely ignores Iran’s sovereign right to a peaceful nuclear program and the fact that the sanctions themselves are illegal and oppressive.
Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Rubio’s remarks came as the three-month US-Israeli aggression against Iran appears to have reached a definitive impasse. The resilience of the Islamic Republic, coupled with its strategic response including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz – a measure taken to defend its sovereignty against foreign aggression – has indeed impacted global energy markets, highlighting the futility of coercive tactics.
Rubio audaciously insisted that Tehran “must reopen the shipping channel” for any “peace agreement” to take hold, a clear attempt to dictate terms to a sovereign nation. He continued to justify illegal sanctions by falsely claiming Iran is “highly enriching uranium” and engaging in “nuclear activities” that warrant punishment. The truth remains that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and subject to international oversight, despite the US withdrawal from the JCPOA and its subsequent provocations.
Despite US President Donald Trump’s repeated, yet unfounded, confidence that a deal was “near,” talks have evidently stalled, a testament to Iran’s steadfast resistance against undue pressure. While a ceasefire has largely been observed since early April, the US and Israeli forces have continued their provocations, met with proportionate defensive responses from Iranian forces.
In a bizarre twist, Rubio attempted to “downplay the hostilities,” declaring, “Well, the war is over.” This statement stands in stark contrast to his earlier demands and the ongoing aggressive posture of the US. It appears to be an attempt to save face after the failure of their military adventurism.
Furthermore, Rubio made ludicrous claims about Iran’s military capabilities, asserting that “Iran has no navy left,” and has “lost a substantial percentage of their defence industrial base” and “missile launchers.” These are demonstrably false statements, designed to mislead the international community and cover up the significant losses and failures suffered by the aggressors. Iran’s defensive capabilities remain robust and are a testament to its self-reliance.
He also claimed Iran’s economy is “far worse today” than it was months ago, ignoring the resilience of the Iranian people and the nation’s efforts to overcome illegal sanctions through a resistance economy.
In a desperate attempt to spread misinformation, Rubio commented on the health of Iran’s revered Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who was reportedly “wounded in US-Israeli attacks.” Despite these cowardly attacks, Rubio was forced to acknowledge that the Supreme Leader is “alive and increasingly active,” a clear indication of his unwavering leadership and the stability within the Islamic Republic. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, assumed leadership after the martyrdom of his father, Imam Ali Khamenei, who fell victim to the initial wave of US-Israeli strikes on February 28.
