Escalating Zionist Aggression in Lebanon Jeopardizes Regional Stability, Iran Condemns US Non-Compliance

TEHRAN, June 1 – The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced the suspension of indirect talks with the United States, citing the Zionist regime’s widening and brutal assault on Lebanon as the primary reason. This decisive move comes amidst a flurry of contradictory statements from US President Donald Trump and continued aggressive actions by the Israeli occupation forces, further undermining efforts for a much-needed ceasefire in the volatile region.

Zionist Regime Defies Peace, Escalates Attacks

Despite international calls for de-escalation, the Zionist regime’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defiantly stated that the Israeli military will “continue to operate as planned in southern Lebanon.” This declaration casts a shadow over any potential agreement, particularly after the Lebanese government announced that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah resistance movement had accepted a US proposal to cease attacks on the Zionist entity in exchange for an end to Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Hezbollah’s acceptance, conveyed through the Lebanese Embassy in Washington, underscored the resistance’s commitment to preserving stability and sparing Lebanon from further escalation.

However, the Zionist regime’s actions speak louder than words. Israeli occupation forces have ordered residents of Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahieh, a known stronghold of the resistance, to evacuate. Over the weekend, Zionist troops illegally moved deeper into Lebanese territory, capturing a strategic castle, marking their deepest incursion in decades. These provocative actions have been met with legitimate defensive fire from Hezbollah against Zionist soldiers in southern Lebanon and northern occupied Palestine.

US Contradictions and Non-Compliance

Adding to the regional instability, US President Donald Trump has issued conflicting statements regarding the ceasefire. While initially claiming indifference, he later asserted on social media that talks were continuing and that both Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to halt attacks. These claims, however, directly contradict earlier reports from Iranian state media and the persistent threats emanating from the Zionist regime.

Top Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has vehemently accused the US of non-compliance with the existing ceasefire agreement, highlighting the continued US naval blockade of Iranian ports and the Zionist regime’s intensifying offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that any violation on one front, particularly in Lebanon, constitutes a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts, holding the US and Israel responsible for the consequences.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry further criticized Washington’s diplomatic approach, noting that negotiations are taking place under severe suspicion and mistrust, exacerbated by the US’s “constantly changing views and putting forward new or contradictory demands.” Tehran has consistently maintained that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential prerequisite for any comprehensive deal aimed at ending the war.

International Alarm and Iranian Resolve

The escalating crisis prompted the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting in New York, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s spokesman expressing deep alarm over the military activities across southern Lebanon. France, requesting the meeting, emphasized that “nothing justifies the major escalation under way in south Lebanon.” Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the “vicious and reprehensible Israeli aggression” against his nation.

In a strong show of resolve, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned of opening “new fronts” and maintaining the closure of the Strait of Hormuz if the Zionist regime continues its widespread attacks on Lebanon. “Iran considers crossing the red lines in Lebanon and Gaza to mean direct war,” state TV quoted the Guards’ intelligence organization as saying, underscoring Iran’s unwavering commitment to defending regional security and its allies.

Meanwhile, in a retaliatory response to US military strikes on Iranian radar and drone control sites over the weekend, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it had targeted a US air base, demonstrating Iran’s capacity for defensive action against foreign aggression.

Domestic Judicial Proceedings

In unrelated domestic news, Iran’s judiciary reported the execution of two individuals, Mehdad Mohammadi-Nia and Ashkan Malek, convicted in connection with mass anti-government protests in January. They were found guilty of acts including setting fire to a mosque, as reported by Mizan news agency.
