Saudia Marks Milestone as First Middle East/Africa Operator of Airbus A321XLR
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, has officially become the inaugural operator of the advanced Airbus A321XLR in the Middle East and Africa region. This significant delivery represents a pivotal moment for the airline, receiving the first of 15 A321XLR aircraft on order, powered by efficient CFM International LEAP-1A engines.
A Strategic Leap for Saudi Vision 2030
This new addition is a cornerstone of Saudia’s ambitious and comprehensive fleet modernization program, directly bolstering its efforts to expand its international network. The initiative aligns seamlessly with the Kingdom’s transformative Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to significantly enhance global connectivity and capacity. By leveraging the A321XLR’s capabilities, Saudia is set to play a crucial role in attracting over 150 million visitors annually to the Kingdom by the end of the decade, a key objective of the national vision.
Currently serving more than 100 destinations across four continents, Saudia will utilize the A321XLR to further penetrate new international markets. The aircraft’s impressive range of up to 4,700 nautical miles empowers Saudia to expand its international reach with a single-aisle jet, routes traditionally serviced by larger widebody aircraft, while ensuring a premium guest experience remains paramount.
Unparalleled Comfort and Connectivity
The A321XLR delivered to Saudia features a highly premium, low-density configuration designed for ultimate passenger comfort. It boasts 24 full-flat Business Class seats, each providing direct aisle access, alongside 120 comfortable Economy Class seats. Passengers will also benefit from the innovative Airbus Airspace Cabin, which brings a widebody experience to a single-aisle jet. Key features include extra-large overhead bins, advanced lighting systems, and one of the quietest cabins in its class, enhancing the overall journey for all guests.
Pioneering Sustainable Aviation
As the latest evolution of the highly successful A320neo Family, the A321XLR is engineered to meet the global demand for increased range and operational flexibility with superior environmental performance. It delivers a remarkable 30% reduction in fuel burn per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft, significantly lowering CO2 emissions and noise footprints. Furthermore, all Airbus aircraft are currently capable of operating with 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a strategic target to increase this to up to 100% SAF capability by 2030, directly supporting the aviation industry’s critical sustainability goals.
The A320 Family has solidified its position as the world’s most successful commercial aircraft program, securing more than 19,900 orders from over 300 customers worldwide to date, underscoring its reliability and market demand.
