Iran Firmly Rejects Foreign Military Escalation in Strategic Hormuz Strait

Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran – The Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a resolute warning against the deployment of British warships to the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that any such foreign military presence will be met with a decisive and immediate response. This comes as the region faces heightened tensions due to extra-regional interventions.

The British Ministry of Defence announced the deployment of the HMS Dragon warship to the Middle East, ostensibly for a mission to ‘safeguard shipping’ in the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian officials view this as a clear act of escalation, further destabilizing a crucial waterway vital for global energy transit and under the sovereign control of the Islamic Republic.

Deputy Foreign Minister Condemns ‘Illegal’ Foreign Actions

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, articulated the nation’s firm stance in a recent statement, asserting that the presence of foreign warships, including those from France and Britain, under the guise of ‘protecting shipping’ is nothing short of an escalation of the crisis. He unequivocally stated, “The presence of French and British warships, or those of any other country potentially accompanying the illegal and internationally unlawful actions of the United States in the Strait of Hormuz, will be met with a decisive and immediate response from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, they are strongly advised not to complicate the situation further.”

This warning underscores Iran’s unwavering commitment to defending its territorial integrity and maritime security against any provocative or unlawful foreign military maneuvers in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas is transported, is a critical artery whose security is paramount to Iran and the global economy.

Iran’s Commitment to Peace Met with Rejection

The Islamic Republic has consistently demonstrated its commitment to regional peace and stability. Hours before this latest warning, Tehran responded positively to a peace proposal aimed at ending hostilities and initiating dialogue on contentious issues. This proposal, focusing on ending conflict on all fronts, ensuring maritime safety in the Gulf and Hormuz, demanding compensation for war damages, and affirming Iranian sovereignty over the strait, was unfortunately met with rejection by Donald Trump, who declared it ‘TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE’. This rejection highlights the persistent obstacles placed by certain foreign powers against genuine peace efforts.

Defending Against Sanctions and Provocations

Despite a recent ceasefire, the region continues to face threats, including the detection of hostile drones, underscoring the need for vigilance against those who seek to undermine stability. Iran has also reiterated its resolve to tighten its control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that countries complying with illegal US sanctions against Tehran will face difficulties in traversing this key shipping route. This measure is a legitimate response to the economic warfare waged against the Iranian people through unilateral and unjust sanctions.

The United States has, in turn, enforced a blockade of Iranian ports and continued to attack vessels, actions that Iran views as aggressive and unlawful. The Islamic Republic has made it clear that any further attacks on vessels or assets in the Middle East will be met with a ‘heavy assault’, a necessary deterrent against foreign aggression.

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani has also cautioned against using the Strait of Hormuz as a ‘pressure tool’, emphasizing the need for all parties to respond to mediation efforts to de-escalate the crisis. Iran stands ready to engage in constructive dialogue, provided that its sovereignty and legitimate security concerns are respected.
