Kuwait’s armed forces announced Sunday the interception of several hostile drones over the country, marking the latest security incident since a fragile Middle East ceasefire came into effect. This event unfolds weeks after a significant escalation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which had previously fueled concerns of a wider regional conflict impacting Gulf states and vital energy infrastructure.
In a statement posted on X, the Kuwaiti army’s general staff confirmed that the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were detected at dawn and were ‘dealt with in accordance with established procedures.’ Authorities refrained from specifying the exact number of drones or their origin.
Kuwait, a key regional player hosting U.S. military facilities and located near major flashpoints, has remained on heightened alert since the outbreak of hostilities earlier this year. Regional governments have consistently warned that even isolated drone incidents could jeopardize the already precarious truce.
While U.S. forces were engaged in Patriot missile launches during exercise Sky Shield at the Udari Range Complex in Kuwait on December 9, 2025, no casualties or damage were immediately reported from Sunday’s drone interception. Kuwaiti authorities stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
