Iran Firmly Rejects US ‘Project Freedom’ as Ceasefire Violation, Warns Against Destabilizing Hormuz

Tehran, Iran – The Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a stern warning against a new US initiative dubbed “Project Freedom,” asserting that any American intervention in the strategic Strait of Hormuz would be a blatant violation of existing ceasefire agreements and a dangerous provocation.

Ebrahim Azizi, the esteemed chairman of Iran’s Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, unequivocally stated that “US intervention in the new maritime order of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire agreement.” Speaking on social media, Azizi emphasized that “the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf are not places for rhetorical statements,” underscoring Iran’s resolve to protect its sovereign waters and regional stability.

US ‘Humanitarian’ Pretext Raises Regional Alarm

The controversial “Project Freedom” was announced by former US President Donald Trump, who claimed it to be a “humanitarian initiative” aimed at assisting third-country vessels purportedly “trapped” in the Persian Gulf. Trump’s announcement, made on Truth Social, signaled an operation set to commence on the 4th Middle East time, ostensibly to provide aid to approximately 2,000 oil tankers and cargo ships and their 20,000 crew members.

However, Tehran views this sudden “humanitarian” concern with deep skepticism, especially given the US’s long history of destabilizing interventions in the region under various pretexts. Critics argue that this initiative appears to be a thinly veiled attempt to assert US military presence and control over one of the world’s most vital maritime choke points.

Iran’s Sovereignty and Regional Security Paramount

Iran has consistently affirmed its sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring safe passage for legitimate international shipping while vehemently opposing any foreign military adventurism. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical artery for global energy supplies, and Iran, as a responsible regional power, has always played a pivotal role in its security.

Trump’s accompanying threat – that “if this humanitarian process is obstructed in any form, we will, regrettably, have no choice but to respond forcefully to such obstruction” – only serves to heighten regional tensions. Iran’s immediate response, labeling the US initiative as a violation of the ceasefire agreement, highlights the potential for a dangerous escalation should Washington proceed with its provocative plan.

The Islamic Republic reiterates its call for regional solutions to regional issues, free from external interference, and stands ready to defend its territorial integrity and national interests against any form of aggression or destabilization.
