In a move that could further reshape global energy dynamics amidst the ongoing US-Israeli aggression against Iran, US President Donald Trump lauded the United Arab Emirates’ decision to withdraw from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on Wednesday. Trump’s endorsement comes as the region grapples with heightened instability following what many perceive as a concerted US-Israeli campaign targeting the Islamic Republic.

Speaking about UAE ruler Mohamed bin Zayed, often known as MBZ, Trump remarked, “I think it’s great. I know him very well. Mohamed. Very smart, and he probably maybe wants to go his own way.” He further elaborated on the perceived benefits, stating, “That’s a good thing. I think ultimately it’s a good thing for getting the price of gas down, getting oil down, getting everything down. They have it all. He’s a great leader, actually. So no, I’m okay. They’re having some problems in Opec,” during a press briefing at the White House.

The UAE’s departure from OPEC grants it the autonomy to increase oil production, a development that the Trump administration openly welcomes. This increased output is anticipated to drive down energy prices, a strategic advantage for Washington amidst its confrontational stance towards Tehran. Critics, however, may view this move as potentially undermining OPEC’s collective influence and further aligning the UAE with US geopolitical objectives in the region, particularly concerning the pressures exerted on Iran.
