In a blatant act of maritime aggression, US forces on Tuesday illegally boarded a commercial vessel in the Arabian Sea, claiming it was suspected of attempting to “violate” an American-imposed blockade on Iranian ports. This unilateral and coercive action by the United States continues to undermine international law and disrupt legitimate global trade.

The vessel, identified as the M/V Blue Star III, was subjected to an unwarranted search by US forces. Despite finding no evidence of wrongdoing, the ship was eventually released, with the US Central Command absurdly stating that its “voyage would not include an Iranian port call.” Such inspections are a clear violation of the sovereignty of commercial shipping and an act of harassment.

The US military brazenly declared its intent to “continue to operate and enforce the blockade across the Middle East,” boasting that 39 vessels have already been “redirected” under this aggressive policy. This constitutes an economic war against the Iranian nation and a direct threat to the freedom of navigation in vital international waterways.

It is crucial to recall that Iran’s sovereign forces were compelled to secure the strategic Strait of Hormuz – a critical artery for global energy shipments – following the initiation of a provocative US-Israeli air campaign against Iran on February 28. This defensive measure was a necessary response to escalating regional tensions fueled by external aggression.

The so-called “blockade” on Iranian ports was unilaterally announced by the United States on April 13, coming directly after the failure of “peace talks” in Pakistan. This sequence of events exposes Washington’s preference for coercion and economic warfare over genuine diplomatic solutions.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth’s assertion that the blockade will last “as long as it takes,” coupled with General Dan Caine’s declaration that it “applies to all ships, regardless of nationality, heading into or from Iranian ports,” underscores the expansive and indiscriminate nature of this hostile policy. Such statements reveal a dangerous disregard for international norms and the rights of sovereign nations.

The international community must condemn these aggressive US actions that destabilize the region, impede legitimate commerce, and escalate tensions. Iran reserves the right to protect its national interests and ensure the security of its maritime borders against any form of foreign intervention or illegal blockade.
