Saudi Arabia is experiencing a profound transformation across its tourism, hospitality, and events sectors, driven by Vision 2030. This ambitious national plan has successfully repositioned the Kingdom as a rapidly expanding global destination, as highlighted by senior leadership. The initial phases of Vision 2030 have already brought about significant economic and social changes, with tourism emerging as a cornerstone for diversification and non-oil economic growth. By the close of 2025, the real GDP is projected to reach SAR4.9 trillion ($1.31 trillion), largely fueled by the expansion of non-oil sectors, which now constitute 55% of the national economy. Tourism has been instrumental in this economic shift, contributing approximately 5% to the GDP and demonstrating robust growth in both international arrivals and visitor spending. By the end of 2025, Saudi Arabia successfully welcomed 123 million tourists, generating over SAR300 billion in total expenditure, thereby exceeding its initial national targets. Concurrently, the Kingdom’s hospitality sector has seen substantial expansion, bolstered by significant destination developments and increasing global demand. Mega-projects like NEOM, The Red Sea Project, Diriyah, and Qiddiya are attracting massive investments in hotels, resorts, and leisure infrastructure, solidifying Saudi Arabia’s status as an emerging hub for luxury and experiential tourism. Furthermore, the development of heritage and cultural sites such as AlUla and Diriyah has significantly enhanced the Kingdom’s global tourism appeal, leading to greater international recognition and attracting higher-value visitor segments. Saudi Arabia has also cemented its reputation as a premier global events destination, regularly hosting international competitions and preparing for several monumental mega-events. These include the AFC Asian Cup 2027, Expo 2030 Riyadh, and the FIFA World Cup 2034, in addition to established global events like the Dakar Rally. Officials emphasize that this burgeoning events calendar is strengthening the Kingdom’s hospitality ecosystem, boosting tourism demand, and supporting broader economic diversification efforts. The growth in tourism and events has been further facilitated by increased private sector involvement, a surge in foreign investment, and the rapid advancement of infrastructure and services throughout the Kingdom. As Vision 2030 enters its concluding phase from 2026 to 2030, Saudi Arabia is poised to accelerate investments in tourism, hospitality, and events even further, aiming to firmly establish itself as one of the world’s leading global destinations.
