Toyota Faces Second Consecutive Monthly Sales Drop in March 2026
Tokyo, Japan – Toyota Motor Corporation has reported a second consecutive monthly decline in its global vehicle sales for March 2026. The automotive giant attributes this downturn primarily to the ongoing model changeover for its popular RAV4 SUV and a noticeable softening of demand across the Middle East market.
Global and Regional Performance Overview
For the month of March, Toyota’s global sales witnessed a 7.3% year-on-year decrease, totaling 897,871 vehicles. This trend was mirrored in its overseas operations, where sales fell by 7.2% to 755,646 units. Domestically, sales in Japan also experienced a dip of 7.8%, reaching 142,225 vehicles, partly influenced by the anticipated removal of the environmental performance-based vehicle tax.
Including its subsidiaries, Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors, Toyota’s worldwide sales for March amounted to 983,126 units, marking a 5.8% decrease compared to the previous year. Interestingly, despite the sales contraction, Toyota’s overall global production demonstrated resilience, increasing by 3.9% to 1.02 million vehicles.
