EAST GRANBY — The Connecticut National Guard is preparing to deploy 150 soldiers to the Middle East, with a send-off ceremony scheduled for Tuesday morning. These soldiers are part of the 192nd Military Police Battalion and will be tasked with managing a confinement facility for military prisoners in an undisclosed location, according to the Connecticut National Guard.
Governor Ned Lamont expressed his anticipation for the soldiers’ safe return, stating, “This assignment shows how valued their contributions are. Deploying overseas means several months away from loved ones, missing important events, holidays, and celebrations, and I want each member of the 192nd — as well as all of their families — to know how appreciative we are of the sacrifices they are making while on this mission.”
The ceremony will commence at 9:30 a.m. at the Bradley Air National Guard Base in East Granby. Dignitaries expected to attend include Governor Lamont, Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, and Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas.
The deployment, supporting an initiative the Pentagon has named Operation Epic Fury, will see the soldiers operating within the CENTCOM area of responsibility, which encompasses the Middle East and parts of Asia. Maj. Gen. Francis J. Evon Jr., the adjutant general and commander of the Connecticut National Guard, highlighted the significant sacrifices made by service members and their families. He added, “The support of their loved ones is the bedrock of their strength, and we are committed to providing them with the resources they need during this challenging time.”
