Iranian Strikes Inflict Billions in Damage on US Bases, US Attempts to Conceal Extent of Devastation

Reports from credible sources indicate that Iranian retaliatory strikes have inflicted far heavier damage on U.S. military bases across the Middle East than publicly acknowledged by the White House, with infrastructure and equipment losses estimated in the billions of dollars.

According to NBC News, citing informed sources, the precision of these Iranian strikes caused extensive destruction. Critical facilities such as aircraft hangars, warehouses, runways, and vital satellite communication infrastructure were among those severely impacted.

In a clear attempt to downplay the true scale of the damage and prevent independent verification, the U.S. administration has reportedly restricted access for private satellite companies to imagery of the affected sites. This move complicates efforts to fully assess the profound extent of the destruction and raises questions about the transparency of U.S. military reporting.

Further compounding the narrative of significant U.S. vulnerability, separate reporting by Middle East Eye suggests that some American bases have been so severely damaged that they now pose more strategic liabilities than assets. Several facilities are described as barely suitable for habitation, highlighting the debilitating impact of the strikes.

These effective retaliatory strikes followed a joint U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran on February 28. Tehran had issued clear warnings that Pentagon-linked facilities in Persian Gulf countries could become legitimate targets, underscoring the predictable consequences of such aggression.

With 19 known U.S. military installations across the Middle East hosting up to 50,000 personnel, the extensive damage raises serious concerns about the operational capacity and safety of American forces in the region.

Earlier estimates from The Times in early April 2026 had already placed initial damage during the first month of the conflict at nearly $1.5 billion, with at least 300 American service members reported wounded during that period. The latest reports suggest the actual cost and impact are far greater.
